UNFPA distributes over 53,000 male and female condoms at Calabar Carnival Village

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) through its Wise -up Cross River State campaign has so far distributed over 53,000 condoms at Calabar Christmas Village. Mr. Olamide Onifade, Head, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, UNFPA, Wise-up Cross River State, who disclosed this in Calabar on Sunday, said:

"As at Wednesday, December 22, 2016, a total of 3,533 people have accessed the Wise-up zone with a total of 2030 HIV counselling and testing carried out. Also, over 53,000 units of both male and female condoms have been given out, while 7,077 pieces of information, education and communication materials have so far been distributed. The Wise-up Cross River State campaign is aimed at reducing HIV/AIDS prevalence in the state through the active involvement of the youth and the vulnerable".

A couple who wanted children of their own but couldn’t because of cysts in the wife’s ovary, have been arrested for luring a pregnant woman and attempting to cut her baby from her womb, killing both mother and child in the process.

Thaina da Silva Pinto and her husband Fabio Luiz Lima lured 22-year-old Rayanni Christini Costa to their home under the pretence of donating baby items to her.

Thaina who is 21 years old has been married to Fabio for three years, but upon discovering she could not have children she pretended to friends and family that she was pregnant and even went as far as posting photos of her swollen tummy on social media. She then joined a Whatsapp group for people wanting to donate baby items where she then got access to pregnant women in need.

Tiny Harris files for divorce from T.I. after 6 years of marriage

T.I.'s wife, Tiny Harris, has filed for divorce from the rapper after 6 years of marriage and 3 children together. Tiny filed legal documents for divorce at the Superior Court of Henry County in the state of Georgia on December 7. Read TMZ's report below:

George loved having friends over and was often still going strong well into the following morning. This continued right up until his death.'

'He's been rushed to A&E on several occasions. He used heroin. I think it’s amazing he’s lasted as long as he has.'

Lagos state set to sell bag of rice at N13,000

Starting from next week, the Lagos state government has promised to sell bags of rice at 13,000 each.

The Lagos State Government on Friday said it could not commence the sale of its Lake Rice on December 15 as earlier planned to ensure that plots to hijack the project was averted.

The Special Adviser on Food Security to Governor Akinwumi Ambode, Mr. Sanni Okanlawan, said that the rice would now be on sale from next week

The government had planned to sell the rice at N13,000 per 50kg bag at the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development area headquarters from Dec. 15.

Okanlawon said the government was installing mechanisms for Lagosians to celebrate the best Yuletide without hiccups posed by money bags.

Soldiers revolt against their superiors in Borno state

Aggrieved soldiers at the 21 Brigade of the Nigerian Army are currently on rampage over allegations of mistreatment and insincerity on the part of some of their senior officers.

According to Premium Times, the soldiers this morning began to shoot indiscriminately into the air and even threatened to kill any senior officer who comes out to stop them. A military source in Borno who spoke on condition of anonymity said;

South African President, Jacob Zuma, was rushed off stage earlier today after the tent he was attending a function in collapsed.
