I’ve no business with Seun Egbegbe again —Toyin Aimakhu

Actress, Toyin Aimakhu, has been going through a lot in the last six months. Trouble started for the actress last year when news emerged that her marriage to, Adeniyi Johnson, was heading for the rocks. It eventually did crash as both parties decided to end the union amicably.

Aimakhu reportedly packed out of Johnson’s house and told those who cared to listen that she was moving away permanently and would not be returning to Johnson, who was reported to be having an amorous relationship with one of Aimakhu’s staff members.

Weeks after the break-up, she was reported to have found solace in the hands of another popular name in the movie industry, Seun Egbebgbe.

THE ROYAL HIGHNESS,AWUJALE OF IJEBU LAND RESTATES CALL FOR COMMUNITY POLICE

THE Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has renewed the call for community policing in Nigeria, saying it has become even more relevant today than ever before in the light of the nation’s recurring security problems.

He made the call on Friday in his palace in Ijebu-Ode while addressing a world press conference on his plan to endow a professorial chair on Governance at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

Awujale recalled that “in those days” when there were the Nigeria Police, the local government police as well as some regional para-military officers working together to maintain law and order, things were much better.

Today, however, he noted, the federal government-controlled police do not have the required number of personnel to effectively police the country.

“I believe that regardless of whatever number (of personnel) we have in the Nigeria Police, we need this community policing because it is they who will know the criminals around. We need community policing; we know ourselves. That will assist to minimize the incidence of criminality in our society.”

Obasanjo to EFCC: ’You are a toothless bulldog’!

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has attacked the Economic and Financial CrimesCommission, EFCC, which he described as a toothless bulldog

Obasanjo said, though the anti-graft body became dreaded during the time of the pioneer Chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, it has become a toothless bulldog. While speaking, yesterday, during his 79th birthday celebration, held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the former Nigerian leader wondered what had happened to the anti-graft agency that led to its present status. According to him, gone were the days when the people believed that “the fear of Nuhu Ribadu is the beginning of wisdom”. The former President, however, advised the Buhari government and stakeholders to take a critical look at the situation that made the agency lose its power to tame corruption and avoid it. He said government must avoid any action that could make the agency take a step forward and three steps backward. Obasajo said, “Honestly, when Nuhu was handling EFCC, he handled it in such a way that people coined the saying that ‘ the fear of Nuhu Ribadu is the beginning of wisdom ‘ and then the question you will ask is, how did we go down? How did we lose that? “Nuhu Ribadu is still here, he’s still alive. The institution we started together is still there,

Africa gets its first solar-powered airport

South Africa has ramped up its green credentials by unveiling the continent's first solar-powered airport. Located halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, George Airport will meet 41% of its energy demand from a brand new 200 square meter solar power plant built on its grounds.

The facility, which was officially launched last week, has 3,000 photovoltaic modules, and will gradually increase capacity to deliver 750Kw power when it reaches full production.

It cost just over a million dollars to build, and is part of South Africa's commitment to introduce a mix of energy sources to all its airports. "As an airports management company running nine airports nationally, part of our strategic objective is to minimize our environmental impact," Skhumbuzo Macozoma, chairman of the Airports Company South Africa Board said in a statement.

"Harnessing solar power is a viable cleaner energy source which contributes towards diversifying the energy mix. This plant will ensure that the airport is self-sustaining in terms of its power needs, and will eventually extend to the broader community within the George municipality," he added.

The airport serves the Western Cape town of George which lies in the heart of the scenic Garden Route, famous for its lush vegetation and lagoons which are dotted along the landscape.
