Why Should 150,000 Policemen Be Guarding VIPs, Atiku Queries Buhari

In the wake of the outcry over the abduction of 110 schoolgirls from Dapchi in Yobe State, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to explain why 150,000 policemen should be attached to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) in the country and not schools.

In an interview with THISDAY newspaper, Atiku who recently decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year said if he had his way he would withdraw all the 150,000 policemen from the VIPs and send them to guard schools in the northeast.

“If I had my way, I would have recalled all of those 150,000 policemen who are not performing core police duties and send them to provide security for every school in the North-East region. That to me would be a better use of their time and services.

Black Panther’ Hits $1 Billion Mark At Global Box Office

Disney’s mega hit “Black Panther” has passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The studio said Saturday that the milestone is based on Disney’s estimate of ticket sales.

The announcement comes on the 26th day of release for the blockbuster. The movie is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan.

Disney notes that “Black Panther” is the fifth film in its Marvel universe to reach the milestone. The others are “The Avengers,” ″Avengers: Age of Ultron,” ″Iron Man 3,” and “Captain America: Civil War.”

The film has made $521 million domestically, becoming the No. 2 superhero release of all time, surpassing “The Dark Knight.”

Despite buzz over the history-making cast and crew behind it, Coogler said his first goal was to make a good film.

“First things first, it’s got to work as a movie. That’s hard enough to do,” Coogler told “CBS This Morning” in February. He said his past experience as an athlete helped him tune out the pressure.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says its allegation of double registration against Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State still stands.

“He has committed an offence and we shall prosecute him when he is out office,” INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi, Prof. James Apam, said in Lokoja on Thursday.

He said that the recent issuance of a temporary voter’s card to the governor did not mean that the issue of double registration had been swept under the carpet.

Construction: Lagos Govt Urged To Put In Place Measures Against Accidents, Gridlock

Some road users in Lagos on Thursday appealed to the Lagos State Government to put in place measures to prevent accidents and gridlock on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway under construction.

The road users told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that debris from excavations in the construction site had further narrowed the highway, posing danger.

They called for warning signs to avert accidents and reduce gridlock.

Mr Dayo Ogunware, a civil engineer in Shasha area of the state, said that the construction was not being properly managed.

He urged engineers on the site to adopt safety measures.

“I feel that the engineers and other workers on the site are not adopting the right measures.

“By standard, jersey barriers are meant to be used to prevent pedestrian from impending hazard around the excavations made for line drains.

“This was not taken into consideration; it is, therefore, risking the lives of commuters on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway,’’ he told NAN .

Ogunware added that some trenches were without proper safety signs to warn of dangers ahead.

Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment Inaugurates tomato monitoring team

On Monday, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, inaugurated a tomato monitoring team to oversee the implementation of government policy to boost production of fresh tomato fruits.

It will also  substitute imported tomato concentrate with local products and reduce post harvest losses. It is also to establish a framework for sustainable financing of the  sub sector,” Abubakar said.

PDP mocks President Buhari's appointment as AU's Anti-Corruption Champion, says its theJoke of the Year

PDP mocks President Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the reported naming of President Muhammed Buhari as African Union (AU) anti-corruption champion as laughable, derisory and eminently qualified as Africa’s joke of the year.

The party said it was clear that leaders of the African Union were not well briefed on happenings in Nigeria, including the heavy sleazes going on around the Buhari presidency and was misled by the APC Federal Government, which plans to use the naming as face-saving stunt for the administration.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Monday, said it was embarrassing that the Presidency, in its desperation to launder its irredeemably battered image, would resort to exporting its deceptive proclivities to the international arena.

The party said the AU would not have honoured President Buhari if it knew that what obtains in Nigeria is direct persecution of opposition under the guise of war against corruption, while officials of his government swim head deep in corruption under the overt protection of the Presidency.

Nigeria's minister of Health says careless doctors are to blame for spread of lassa fever

Nigeria

Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole has blamed the spread of lassa fever on lax safety measures of health personnel in the country. He said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Ebonyi state Governor, David Umahi following the death of 4 Medical health workers from lassa fever.

He said:

“What is worrisome is that when doctors and healthcare workers become infected, then the country is in danger because everyone that will go and meet that doctor or nurse is at risk. Lassa fever requires close contact between the blood of an infected person and healthcare workers looking out for him. Once you wear gloves, wear protective gown, you can’t have Lassa fever. but we have discovered that doctors and nurses treat Lassa as if it is just ordinary flu or malaria, but it is not."

"Today DINNødhjælp/ACAEDF Director and Leader David together with our Education Officer Bassey and Child Development Officer Orok saved the lives of these 3 beautiful children.

It’s been a very emotional day. We wanted to bring 4 children to safety at “Land of Hope” but one child was killed even before the team left our center

But now I’m just so happy that David and our team were able to save: Idara, a 7-year-old girl accused of killing her father.

Nsidibe, 6 year old boy and his brother, Ezekiel, 5 years old. Accused of killing their mother.

Superstition is NOT an African thing. From the late 15th century to the late 18th century a wave of persecution washed across parts of Europe. Tens of thousands of people were executed for witchcraft.
