New York Police department (NYPD) fear an active terror cell may be operating within New York after an explosion rocked a New Jersey train station on Sunday night as police authorities discovered five pipe bombs and attempted to defuse the five of them.
The bomb was one of five in a backpack near a station and exploded as a robot attempted to disarm it on Monday morning while a second device - a pressure cooker with wires coming out of it has been removed from the scene.
According to multiple reports, New York is on the edge right now, as Federal police operatives are currently quizzing five ‘heavily armed’ suspects after a huge explosion ripped through the Chelsea neighborhood of New York on Saturday evening – injuring 29 people. FBI pulled over a car in Brooklyn which was described by a spokesperson as a “vehicle of interest in the investigation”
Mayor of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Chris Bollwage said two men called police and reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of a package after finding it around 8:30 p.m on Sunday.
He said:
“This was an explosive device. Based on the loudness, I think people could have been severely hurt or injured if they had been in the vicinity.”
